Svella Connect Leads New £32 million Digital Infrastructure Project For CityFibre

Svella Connect, a Svella Plc portfolio business and leading provider of telecoms and digital infrastructure, has been appointed to lead a new £32 million full fibre digital infrastructure rollout in Yorkshire, creating a significant number of new skilled jobs in the region.

The company’s long record of delivering major projects quickly and effectively has seen it chosen to deliver the construction programme across Barnsley for CityFibre, the UK’s largest independent full-fibre platform.

Homes and businesses across the region will benefit from the speed of a modern, hybrid build, incorporating both aerial and underground installations, to deploy full-fibre broadband connectivity quickly and efficiently.

Mobilisation is underway and Svella Connect will work closely with CityFibre, Barnsley Council and local communities when construction starts in early 2022.

The appointment has created a number of jobs and Svella Connect is now recruiting to strengthen its delivery team in the area, with details on open vacancies available on the company’s website.

Gavin Davies, Svella Connect managing director, said: “This appointment as a build partner is great news for Svella Connect and it’s exciting for us to lead such an important multi-million-pound infrastructure project which will see homes and business benefit from a modern, hybrid network.

“It reinforces our position as a key infrastructure partner to CityFibre, supporting its nationwide connectivity targets and will see us create jobs, further expand and strengthen our delivery teams in Yorkshire.”

The majority of Svella Connect’s work is delivered within long-term alliances and framework contracts as a trusted partner to the UK’s largest telecoms companies, and this appointment by CityFibre will see Barnsley benefit from a town-wide network rollout that will bring full fibre broadband connectivity within reach of nearly every home and business in the town.

Natalie Ward, CityFibre’s city manager for Barnsley, said: “We are delighted to have appointed a new build partner so quickly who we know will really help ramp up our operation in the town. Already this year we have made significant progress and we aim to accelerate even faster throughout 2022.

“CityFibre is leading the charge in South Yorkshire to make full fibre available to the people and businesses of Barnsley and we look forward to this transformative technology being available in even more homes very soon.”
